The Fordson Varsity Football Team stood together with arms locked united against bullying, hazing and other intolerable behaviors. The captain of the team said a few words at halftime and he did an excellent job.
Statement read by the captain of Fordson Varsity football team at halftime of tonight’s game.
Good evening my name is Labib, on behalf of the Fordson Football team, the administration and their families I would like to say a few words. Fordson is a school community that stands united and strong. From athletics to the classroom to community service organizations, we are one family and part of the Dearborn Schools community. One thing is very important to us: that every member of our family feels safe and loved. We will always stand together to support one another. The incident that occurred does not represent us and we condemn all inappropriate behavior! This is a time to stand together to show our love and support for each other so that these types of incidents never occur again. Thank you
Listed below are the words that Raad Alawaan a great Dearborn Public Schools Advocate posted to his facebook page with many pictures that highlighted all the great things about Fordson High School.
The Truth About Fordson:
Though I do not watch television, it was hard to avoid today…what happened at Fordson. What’s App, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Whatever happened should and, I’m confident, will be handled appropriately. I don’t know exactly what happened and I don’t care to speculate or put too much thought into this. I’m not interested in sharing stories and running back to see how many “likes” I racked up on my Facebook post.
Why?
Because I know the real Fordson. So, here’s the truth about Fordson High School: Fordson is students coming back and giving back. Fordson is arts. Fordson is sending nine students to Harvard the last fews years, and hundreds more to the best public university in the country.
Fordson is Freshman Orientation. Fordson is the courtyard. Fordson is community service. Fordson is students speaking very highly of their teachers. Ask a college bound senior about their Fordson experience.
Fordson is Pride, Tradition, and Legacy. Fordson is student leadership. Fordson is a place to call home. And Fordson is family.
I read a short book recently, “As a Man Thinketh,” by James Allen. Simple message: We are our thoughts. We can either take the time in making repairs of the errors, or we can remain mired in frustration. The direction we face determines our destination.
Time to get back on track.
Here are my comments on facebook in response to Raad’s post.
Thank you very much Raad Alawan(Click Here to Link to his page with the post and pictures) and everyone for your support. We are united in Dearborn to protect the interest of our schools, community, and especially our students. We have been on top of this situation from the start and will continue to work with Dearborn Police to ensure that the matter is handled appropriately while protecting the interest of our students. I so appreciate a factual post like this one because there are so many irresponsible posts out there which are baseless in fact. They are simply posting based on rumor, innuendo, hearsay information and/or the thrill of getting their name out there on social media tied to this issue. When people decide to make irresponsible posts they are really hurting our students. Many of the individuals that are making the irresponsible posts on social media have no ties to Dearborn whatsoever.
Again, administration has been on top of this situation from the onset. We will ensure that we follow board policy and protect the rights of all. I was at Fordson for the homecoming parade yesterday with our feeder(elementary, middle, & high) school parents, students, staff, and administrators present. The parade along with the Football game last night provided for a positive change of pace vs. what has been going on the past few days. I am so very proud of Principal Alcodray, Administration, staff, parents, community members, the Board of Education, and especially our students for how they are dealing with this situation. We have an outstanding school community in Dearborn.
Our perspective on events, relationships, and surroundings can influence our overall attitude and behaviors. I always pride myself on taking the optimistic viewpoint where I see the glass half full– always. I just refuse to look at the negative perspective. I choose to focus my time and energy on things that are within my control. When we face tough or adverse situations, I believe that we become stronger as a student, professional, and person for having experienced that challenge or adversity. This is what we have always done in Dearborn and I/we will continue to do so.
