Hello all,
On Monday October 5 a Board of Education Study Session was held to discuss the current state of the ASC building, the Howe Building, my goals as Superintendent, and the District Strategic Plan.
The Board provided direction and would like us to move forward in developing recommendations for the use of the $1.9 million allocated for repairs to the ASC building from the SMART Bond. Included in the bond projects for the ASC building was a new roof and parking lot. We will also study possible renovations to the internal space at ASC. A final decision on the future of ASC will be made once the Board receives the information from the study.
In addition, we are going to get an estimate on what it would cost to tear down the former Howe School building and maintain that property for either a potential buyer or for future school district use. The Howe building requires a great deal of repairs, the design is not efficient for alternative uses, and keeping the building as is would not be a cost effective option. If you recall, programs from Howe were moved to the Dearborn Heights campus as an operational cost savings measure.
My goals were also discussed and will be made public soon. They are aligned with my 90 day plan which is on my blog along with the District Strategic Plan. We will soon be putting out an RFP to hire a consultant to help us with renewing our Strategic Plan since the current document expires in June of 2016.
