Press Release/Aug. 11, 2021
Need a full-time, year round job with benefits? Maybe you know someone who wants to work a few hours but only while the kids are in school?
Dearborn Public Schools may have the position for you! The district is one of the largest employers in Wayne County outside of Detroit. We employ about 2,800 staff, including more than 1,000 non-teaching staff. Every August the district has lots of positions to fill as we gear up for the new school year. That need is only greater this year as we return from hybrid learning in the spring to full schools starting on Aug. 30. Currently we are looking to hire more than 100 non-teaching staff.
Job openings include more than 20 openings each for paraprofessionals (classroom aides), food service workers and custodial staff. Other job listings include bus drivers, child care providers, noon hour supervisors, secretaries and receptionists. In skilled trades, we are looking for carpenters, plumbers and electricians. We also need social responsibility room coordinators and community liaisons, preferably who speak Arabic. Jobs range from full-time with full health benefits and retirement to just a few hours only on school days, with every employment option in between. Want full-time, but with a month or two off in the summer? That’s an option for some district positions.
And of course, we need teachers ranging from preschool to high school level. The district is currently looking to fill about 25 teaching positions. Starting pay for new teachers is the highest in Wayne County, and Dearborn Schools offers competitive salaries for teachers with experience.
In addition, we need substitutes for most positions, including teachers, bus drivers, food service workers, custodians, secretaries and more.
All job openings can be found through the district’s online application portal. Those interested are encouraged to start their application online today. Substitute teachers are asked to apply through EduStaff. Those with questions about job openings can call Human Resources at 313-827-3002.
Dearborn Public Schools serves about 20,500 students and has 35 buildings holding 37 schools and two special programs.
“As a district, we are always excited for the start of the new school year,” said Maysam Alie-Bazzi, Executive Director of Staff and Student Services. “But it also means hiring lots of new staff to help us prepare for the return of students to our buildings. Hopefully, some of the people reading this will join us so we can continue to provide our students the best possible services!”
