Applications being accepted for vacant Board seat
– In accordance with Board by-laws and state of Michigan law, Board must post notice of vacant Boards seat.
Upon acceptance of being elected to fill the remaining two years of a six-year term on the Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education, Ms. Mary Lane also resigned from her current six-year term on the Board. The resignation creates a vacancy on the Board until December 31, 2018.
“Ms. Lane resigned her seat on the Board on December 4th. That gives the Board 30 days, or until January 3rd to fill the position,” commented David Mustonen, Director of Communications for the Dearborn Public Schools.
However, the seat that Ms. Lane resigned was already scheduled to expire on December 31, 2018. That seat will be filled on January 1, 2019 by Ms. Roxanne McDonald, one of two people elected in the November 6, 2018 election. Incumbent Jim Thorpe was the other candidate winning in November and will simply retain his seat.
The district thanks Celia Nasser for filling the vacancy on the board. Nasser was appointed in June 2017 to serve until the results of the next school board election were certified, which happened in late November.
“Ms. McDonald has officially won the seat on the Board and will assume her responsibilities on January 1st, three days before the deadline to fill the vacancy occurs,” Mustonen added.
By law, the Board of Education must post a notice of the vacancy and review any applications that are sent to the Board. Anyone living in the Dearborn Public Schools district can apply for the vacant seat.
Applications will be accepted from December 4, 2018 through December 14, 2018. Those interested should hand deliver or send a letter of interest, resume, and three references to the Dearborn Public Schools Administration Building, 18700 Audette, Room 6, Dearborn, MI 48124. All materials must be in the Administration Building by 4:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on December 14, 2018.
The Board will review all submitted applications.
