Bullying Prevention Pledge in Dearborn and across the State on the First Week of School

Greetings Everyone,

To further support our on-going efforts to address bullying behavior our District will join with hundreds of schools, colleges, and businesses on the first day of school(or first couple of days pending logistical concerns in the schools) and take a pledge against bullying. I am also asking all employees to take the pledge and I will lead by example as we take the pledge at ASC on Tuesday afternoon. All School or Department heads should plan to have this done in a setting of your choice the first couple of days of school. In addition, the Board of Education will take the pledge at our September 12 regular P-12 meeting.

This pledge is part of a program being promoted by the State Superintendent and the Michigan Federation of Teachers. Here is a link to a website that explains the model.

#Day1 Works by….

  • A person in authority leading the pledge

  • Clearly stating behavior expectations and responsibilities

  • Addressing the issue early (on Day 1 or the First Week!)

  • Getting verbal confirmation back that it is understood

I informed all faculty about this during my presentations the past two weeks and a letter was sent to the community and parents informing them about the pledge. I hope that everyone had a fantastic labor day weekend. The excitement with our students starts tomorrow.
