All three traditional public high schools in Dearborn are planning special events before Memorial Day to remember fallen soldiers from their schools.
The events will take place in the morning of the week before Memorial Day, and all will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Visitors are welcome to attend the ceremonies.
Dearborn High School is holding its ceremony on Wednesday, May 22 starting at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium. The event will include remarks from Douglas Radcliffe, a former U.S. Marine who now teaches at Dearborn High. Students will also honor Dearborn High graduates and others who lost their lives in the service of our country, including James Huard who died in Vietnam and has a memorial on the school grounds.
Fordson High School will hold its Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 23, also at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium.
Edsel Ford High School’s annual Memorial Day Rose Ceremony will take place Friday, May 24th at 7:50 a.m. and be led by author Lisa Lark. The event will also include music from the Edsel Ford choir and orchestra.
Dearborn Public Schools will also be well represented in the City of Dearborn’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27. Several schools have bands performing in the parade, and some school-related groups will also participate. Participating school bands include Edsel Ford High School directed by Sara Broekhuizen, Stout Middle School directed by Andrew Wolff, Smith Middle School directed by Griffin Wojtowicz, Fordson High School directed by Dan Taylor, STEM Middle School directed by Nichole Hartrick, Dearborn High directed by Brian McCloskey, Bryant Middle directed by Matthew Kwiecien, Lowrey Middle directed by Marwan Nashef, Unis Middle directed by Julianna Schoon, Woodworth Middle directed by Helen Beerline and Salina Intermediate directed by Lauren Walega.
The Memorial Day Parade will start with a ceremonial funeral procession at 9:30 a.m. This year’s parade will take place again in west Dearborn starting at Nowlin Street and moving east toward Brady to end at the Dearborn Historical Museum’s McFadden Ross House.
