Greetings,
With the start of a new school year only a few weeks away, I am writing to share important news that has now been made public. I am very fortunate to be one of seven candidates selected to interview for the position of Superintendent for the State of Michigan. It’s important for me to be transparent with our community and make clear that I have not sought any other position. I remain focused and dedicated to the students in Dearborn.
The decision to apply for this position was made after careful consideration. I had many discussions with my family, colleagues, and others working in the field of education. I was humbled when trusted and respected individuals encouraged me to apply and the firm conducting the search contacted me asking that I submit an application.
My plan was not to leave this great school district at this time. However, working in Dearborn my entire career has helped me attain the experiences and knowledge base needed to be considered for State Superintendent. In addition, knowing that others felt I could bring about effective change gave me added incentive to take this step.
I have always approached any task, project, or challenge in a collaborative manner seeking a win-win situation for all. If selected by the State Board of Education, it is my hope to bring that same attitude of collaboration and mutual success to the state level so all students in Michigan can be successful.
There are seven other very qualified and dedicated educators interviewing for this position. I’m confident that whatever decision is made our state will have a strong instructional leader. I look forward to starting my 11th year as Superintendent in Dearborn and my 30th year in the Dearborn Public Schools. No matter the outcome of these interviews, Dearborn is and will always be a big part of my life, a positive influence on the person I am, and hold a special place in my heart.
With warmest regards,
Glenn Maleyko, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
