Press Release #19 / Jan. 29, 2025

Dearborn Public Schools has released the preliminary calendar for the 2025-26 school year.

School will resume for students on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025 and run through June 9, 2026.  Both days will be a half day for all students.  School open houses will again be held in the afternoon on the Friday before school starts – which this year is Aug. 22.  This allows students to see their schools and meet their teachers before class starts.

Schools will be closed from Friday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day weekend.

Early Release Tuesdays will start on Sept. 2.  For school day Tuesdays from September through May, students will be released 90 minutes earlier to provide time for teachers to meet and collaborate. Students will also have three Tuesdays off for teacher professional development – Sept. 30, 2025; Nov. 4, 2025 (Election Day) and March 3, 2026.

Other days off include Nov. 26 through 28, 2025 for Thanksgiving; Dec. 22, 2025 through Jan. 2, 2026 for winter break; Jan. 19, 2026 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Feb. 16, 2026 for Presidents Day; March 19 and 20, 2026 for Eid al Fitr and Good Friday; March 30 to April 3, 2026 for spring break; and May 25 to 27, 2026 for Memorial Day and Eid al Adha.

All students will have a half day on Jan. 5, 2026 as the second semester starts.  Jan. 6, 2026 will also be a half day for middle and high school students.  Oct. 24, 2025 is a half day for elementary students.

Many factors go into setting the school calendar each year.  State law dictates the number of days and minutes that students must be in class.  The district also considers the Wayne County RESA Common Calendar and negotiates other specifics with the Dearborn Federation of Teachers as part of that contract.  Cultural considerations also play a role in creating the calendar.

While no changes in the school days are expected for the 2025-26 school year, situations sometimes arise that may lead the district to change the calendar.  The district is also still looking at the feasibility of bringing back soft starts where kindergarten and Young 5s students start with a few half days of school. The most up-to-date version of the calendar is always available on the district website at www.dearbornschools.org/calendars.  Printable versions of the calendar are posted at the bottom of the page.  Parents are reminded to check with their child’s school for important events and activities unique to their school and not appearing on the district calendar.
