Press Release #09 – Lindbergh receives special Lighthouse School honor

More than a dozen students sit in a school hallway by a mural they are working on that says "Today is a good day to be a leader."

Press Release #09 / Oct. 17, 2024

Lindbergh Elementary School recently learned it is one of only four Leader in Me Schools in the country to be recognized on both of the program’s Lighthouse Academic Honor Rolls.

Lindbergh made the list for “exemplary academic proficiency” after student scores put them in the 87th percentile in Michigan, according to Leader in Me.  Nationwide, 58 schools in the program were recognized for their overall academic success.  To make the list, schools need to score in the 85th percentile or higher on their state’s combined proficiency standards as computed by Schooldigger.com.

Leader in Me also recognized Lindbergh for its “exemplary academic growth” after Lindbergh was able to raise its proficiency percentile by more than 6 points in one year.  Nationally, 38 schools in the program were recognized for their academic growth after scoring in at least the 50th percentile and raising their percentile by at least 5 points in one year.

Leader in Me is a program that encourages habits that lead to student success at school and in life.  The habits include developing goals, considering others, looking for win-win situations, and more.  The program is based on Stephen Covey’s “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”  Schools become Lighthouse Schools after showing they have properly implemented and continued the Leader in Me Program.

Lindbergh was also named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2019, a recognition bestowed by the U.S. Department of Education.
