Press Release 09/Oct. 20, 20221
You are never too young to learn, and Dearborn Public Schools knows parents are every child’s first teachers.
Parents who live in the district and have children ages 6 months to 4 years are invited to attend free Parent University courses. The 2021 fall classes begin Oct. 22.
“This program is interactive for parents and children. It gives parents easy, practical and inexpensive ideas to help foster child development and to strengthen the parent-child bond,” said Early Childhood Coordinator Amy Modica, who oversees Parent University.
Classes will be offered on Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. at five Dearborn Public elementary schools: Cotter, McDonald, Oakman, River Oaks, and Salina. No registration is required. For more information, call (313) 827-6150. The program runs weekly through Nov. 12.
Parent University provides parents with classes in different developmental areas to help the adults best meet the needs of their young children. Class topics include nutrition and health; dental care; social emotional; screen time and technology; math; literacy; music and movement; and science. During classes, parents will participate in hands-on activities with their child, hear from professionals in these areas, and receive free materials to continue learning through play at home. Parents also receive free books they can read to their child.
Parent University classes will be offered again this school year in the late winter to spring.
