Memorial Day ceremonies planned at Dearborn, Edsel and Fordson high schools
The public is invited to remember our fallen servicemen and women in Memorial Day ceremonies planned at Dearborn, Edsel Ford and Fordson high schools later this month.
Fordson High will host a ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, starting at 9 a.m. in the auditorium. The ceremony will include Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr; Bill Bazzi, Dearborn Heights City Council member and Commander of the Dearborn Allied War Veterans Council; and Lisa Lark, who is writing a book about Dearborn service members who died in service to their country. Again this year, the school will also highlight three of the former Fordson students who served in times of war. Fordson is at 13800 Ford Road.
Dearborn High’s ceremony is planned for Wednesday, May 22 starting at 1 p.m. at the school, 19501 Outer Dr. The event will especially honor school graduates who lost their lives in service of our country.
Edsel Ford High will hold its ceremony on Thursday, May 23 from 7:20 to 8:12 a.m. (during 1st hour) in the auditorium. Mayor O’Reilly will be the keynote speaker, and Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko will also speak. The event will also feature performances from Edsel Ford’s school choir and orchestra. A Color Guard will be present as the ceremony pays respect to the Edsel Ford graduates who died while in service during the Vietnam War. Edsel Ford High School is at 20601 Rotunda Dr.
All three ceremonies are open to the public, and the community is encouraged to attend.
The ceremonies are only part of the patriotic activities Dearborn Public Schools are involved in this month.
Duvall Elementary students in May delivered fruit baskets to patients at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Detroit.
Several bands from Dearborn middle and high schools will also participate in the city’s annual Memorial Day Parade on May 27 starting at 10 a.m.
