Addressing Food Service Rumors. There is a lot of inaccurate information that is being sent out to create controversy. This post corrects the record and is an update with letters attached. We are not outsourcing or privatizing our food service employees. We will maintain our union employees and our strong relationship with our employees.

It has come to our attention that there are rumors and false claims being circulated in our community regarding the Food Service Department in the Dearborn Public Schools.

We are not privatizing the food services department as we plan to retain our own employees. We just settled a Tentative Agreement on a 5 year contract with the DFSE union that was overwhelming supported by the membership with a 98% approval rating. The Board of Education will vote on that contract this Monday for final approval.

The District is implementing a Food Service Request For Proposal (RFP) to provide an enhanced service to our students. It was something that our customers the students asked for.

The upper management (chef, nutritionist etc. will be contracted by an outside vendor). We have been extremely transparent throughout the process.

Again we are doing this to ensure that we place students first with every decision that we make.

Click Here to view a letter that was sent back in February 2018 which states we are going to retain our own staff and not outsource or privatize our staff.

Click Here to view a letter that was sent out in August to again reassure staff that we are going to retain our own employees and not oursource/privatize our staff.

Click Here to view a video of the June 11, 2018 board meeting where this was discussed by Tom Wall, Glenn Maleyko and the Board. go to 31 minutes and 30 seconds of the video and view until 37 minutes and 30 seconds.
