- School Visits: Since the beginning of the school year I have made 256 school visits. This is an average of 8 visits per school. However, there are some schools that I visit more frequently like the high schools. In addition, the School Improvement Visits and Walkthrough Visits Continue.
- March is Reading Month. Since the start of the month I have read to several students at the elementary level. This includes Maples, William Ford, Miller, Haigh, River Oaks, Becker, Salina Elementary, Geer Park, and McCollough-Unis. I have really enjoyed the visits. There are more reading sessions upcoming and it will also continue into the Month of April because my schedule is booked solid for the month of March. - I attended the City-School District Relations Committee meeting on March 3rd. Trustee Petlichkoff Chairs the Committee and in attendance were Trustee Hammoud, Trustee Guido, The Mayor, The Chief of Police, Dr. Jensen, members of the Dearborn Schools Cabinet Administration, and Members of the Mayor’s Administration. We had an excellent discussion regarding city-school partnerships and we plan to meet 3-4 times per year.
4. I also attended Literary Night at Henry Ford Elementary on March 3 in support of March is reading month.
5. Joanne Harris the Executive Administrative Assistant in the Human Resources Department won a State award from the Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators. She was recognized at a state conference in Lansing for her outstanding work in the school district.
6. We held a small gathering for Dawn Mital on March 5 as she recently retired from the Dearborn Public Schools. Thank you to Dawn for her outstanding service to the school district and students in Dearborn. She has 33 years of experience working in Dearborn.
7. I attended a retirement reception for Steve Lynch the former Director of Transportation with 22 years of service. Thank you to Steve for his hard work and dedication to the District.
8. This past Friday March 11 I attended a St. Patrick’s Day Party/Fundraiser for the Dearborn Rotary Club. Trustee Petlichkoff and Trustee Hammoud were also in attendance.
9. On February 26 my wife and I attended the Exchange Club Fundraiser Dinner at Park Place.
10. Dedicated Dearborn Teachers, Administrators, and Support Staff were working on Saturday. They have been involved in classes and Professional Development on Saturdays for several months. This helps to reduce substitute teacher usage and assists with enhancing and maintaining a high level of instruction for the benefit of our students.
11. Dearborn’s Got Talent was held on February 25 even though we had a snow day. We have a lot of talented students in the school district.
12. I attended the Chicago Showing at Dearborn High on February 25. It was an outstanding performance by Dearborn High Students.
