It was a busy week with a lot of positive instruction observed, events occurring, and celebrations.
School Visits Continue – School Visits by Cabinet members and I continue. There were three schools with School Improvement Plan (SIP) Evaluation visits last week (Oakman, Cotter, and Howe). In addition, I visited Snow, Dearborn High, William Ford, Geer Park, and Henry Ford Elementary last week. Exciting Levels of Instruction are happening in our schools but we will still continue to enhance our educational model in Dearborn for the benefit of the students that we serve.
Board Meeting – On Monday Night we had a Board of Education Meeting. Presentations on the Parent Liaison Model, My 90 Day Plan Implementation and Blogs throughout the School District were made before the Board of Education. The Board responded with excitement regarding those areas of implementation in our school district especially the blogs and enhanced technology. The powerpoint presentations can be viewed from the Superintendent Blog. https://superintendent.dearbornschools.org/presentations-superintendent-maleyko/ Here is the link to the board meeting on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw4sbU6ai4Q
CINA 102.3 FM Radio Show with Shodr Farhat – On Wednesday I was interviewed on the radio by Mr. Farhat regarding my 90 day plan and district goals moving forward. I appreciated the excellent dialogue and the positive support that was provided by Mr. Farhat.
Feeder Track Meetings. On Thursday we had all principals meet in their new feeder track teams. All meetings are held in schools and include walkthrough visits. Last week the schools that hosted the meetings included River Oaks (Dearborn High Feeder Track), Snow (Edsel Ford Feeder Track) and William Ford (Fordson Feeder Track). The feeder track meetings were led by the Executive Directors of Student Achievement; Dr. Chochol, Ms. Peterson, and Dr. Mosallam (Congratulations to Dr. Mosallam on his recent appointment).
County Superintendent Meeting and the Big Game (Yes Fordson vs. Dearborn High) On Friday. I am part of the Wayne county superintendent group. This group provides me and our district with an excellent ability to network with other superintendents. On Friday we discussed many important topics including administrator & teacher evaluations and the 3rd grade reading bills that have passed the Michigan House. I also dialogued with Representative Darany on Tuesday night, Wednesday, and we were texting on Thursday regarding the bills. Later in the evening it was Friday Night lights at Dearborn High with a great showing and our students did a great job not only on the field but also with the canned food drive to help those in need. Congratulations to all participants.
Cipriano Track Event. On Saturday the 4th annual Cipriano Run was held. It was a great event despite the chilly weather(we won’t be saying that in two months though when winter is here though lol) and over 1500 student registered for the event. Thank you to the PE teachers and Dearborn Track for their support of this wonderful event. I was also able to attend the DTRA literacy training at ASC on Saturday with Dr. Groover and Ms. Lamberti.
